Cooperstown Rotary HistoryOur Club was chartered on January 14, 1924, as the 1,594th club of Rotary International.
The chartering took place at the New Fenimore Hotel and was presided over by Roscoe Briggs of the Oneonta Rotary Club, our sponsor.
District Governor Edwin R. Weeks of Binghamton presented the charter and installed the Club.
Appropriate remarks were offered by David Mills and Jack Kennedy, presidents of the Oneonta and Amsterdam clubs, and by Dr. George Dann, Superintendent of Schools of Oneonta, and by Arthur Curtis.
The Village Choir of Oneonta entertained with Jerry Wilson as the soloist.
Our first officers were President Clarence Brown, First Vice-President Harris L. Cooke, Second Vice-President Frank Shipman, Secretary George Carley, Treasurer Hubbard Brazee, and Sergeant-at-Arms Wilbur Bronner. The officers plus Moses Lippitt constituted the first Board of Directors.
